SiMBA had an old dated website that they relied on their their web partner to update for them. It wasn’t responsive and didn’t reflect the full spectrum of services that they can offer to families who have lost a child.
The old website had lots of content but some users had difficulty finding the information they were looking for. It was impossible for staff to update the site and they wanted to be able to take control over the management and publish to it more regularly.
As part of our Discovery phase, we found that the SiMBA team had some challenges with their existing website and we knew we could overcome them with a new Umbraco site. For example, they wanted to display their services on a map so users can see which are close to them, and they also wanted to be able to receive requests from users online.
After researching the existing content and getting a good understanding of how the site was likely to be used in the future, we were able to advise on a new architecture for the website that would help to guide users quickly to the content that matters to them.
Following the design brief, we developed visuals for the new site; the existing brand and style was to be reflected with a fresh, clean look that enhanced the user experience taking in to account the new site architecture and features we’d be developing.
The old site had to go, it no longer met the needs of the organisation. We chose Umbraco 7 to give them a CMS that was easy to use and and gives them complete control over their content and how it’s presented.
Using the new site architecture we were able to repurpose all of the content from the old website and build up new and important areas of content that we identified as being important during the Strategy phase.
Although enthusiastic, the team were initially nervous about the prospect of learning to use a CMS for the first time. They needn’t have been as our team were able to walk them through updating their site at a tailored training session and they left as fully fledged ‘web-editors’.
We continue to support the team, providing technical support whenever questions or issues arise and providing guidance on the best way to deliver content to their users.
