Launched in 2007, Pet Blood Bank UK is the only charity that provides a canine blood bank service for all veterinary practitioners across the UK. They approached Gecko to create a web application to help with unfilled appointments and the challenge of filling appointments at short notice.
We spent a lot of time with the team at Pet Blood Bank to understand how they envisioned both staff and customers would use the app. We then created the structure for both mobile and desktop versions.
Our Design team created a strong brand that consistently flowed through both the web and mobile app via the colour scheme, logos and iconography.
From mobile splash screens, navigation overlays, badge icons and avatar design, our Design team created layouts that were on brand and extremely easy to navigate.
We used Umbraco to build the web version of the app, which is used by staff. We also made sure that the web version worked on tablets and mobile too, not just desktop, to make it accessible to Pet Blood Bank staff to use on the road.
Using Ionic to build and deploy the mobile app ensured that it would work across multiple platforms, such as native iOS and Android, giving all customers access to the mobile app.
We carried out a testing process with all of the staff that needed to use the app. This allowed us to see how the app worked through the eyes of the staff and alerted us to any tweaks that needed to be made before launch.
Once staff were walked through the system and had time to test the app, we designed a robust user guide that would allow them to confidently manage any issues customers may have when signing up to the system. It also acted as a training guide for new staff members joining the business.
